Customers can expect faster upload speeds with the arrival of new 5G smartphones and devices following a successful test conducted by Vodafone, Qualcomm and Xiaomi. The three companies have tested a new 5G uplink technology that raised peak upload speeds to 273 Mbps, compared to current average upload speeds of 100 Mbps. The technology also extends coverage and increases capacity. Vodafone will be the first in Europe to pioneer the rollout of 5G Standalone (5G SA) networks, which enhances uplink performance using Uplink Carrier Aggregation with Tx Switching, a technique that combines multiple transmission channels. The development is expected to meet the growing demand for cloud storage, video streaming, augmented and virtual reality applications and multiplayer gaming.
Faster 5G upload speeds ahead, thanks to Vodafone, Xiaomi, and Qualcomm
