In the new exhibit “Out with the Old, In with the App” at the Wellington County Museum and Archives, visitors are taken on a journey through time to explore how technology has evolved and the significant impact that smartphones have had on our daily lives. The exhibit features a collection of gadgets and devices from the past that have become obsolete due to the rise of smartphones. Visitors can engage with the artifacts by scanning QR codes with their smartphones to watch videos, listen to music, and learn more about the items on display.

Curator Hailey Johnston highlights the ubiquity of smartphones in our lives and hopes that the exhibit will evoke nostalgia in visitors as they reflect on how many individual devices smartphones have replaced. The interactive rotary dial phone display and voting activity allow visitors to share their own experiences of using smartphones.

“Out with the Old, In with the App” is open until September 15th, with gallery hours on weekdays from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and weekends from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is by donation, and visitors of all ages are welcome to explore the exhibit and learn more about the evolution of technology.
