Experts have predicted how rapid advances in technology may shape the world by 2040. A team of cyber security researchers interviewed 12 experts in the future of technology using a Delphi study, a technique for forecasting. The experts forecasted exponential growth in Artificial Intelligence (AI) over the next 15 years, but expressed concerns that corners could be cut in the development of safe AI. They also raised concerns about the spread of misinformation, as well as the difficulty in distinguishing between truth and fiction in an age of widely accessible AI. The experts suggested solutions such as introducing AI safety principles, new laws to regulate AI safety, and introducing courses on technical skills and legislation in universities.
